Labor Day weekend show

Had a busy weekend-Jerry was doing a side job-renovating a dog-show friend's bathroom in a 100-year old house-quite a challange but he loves that sort of thing. I took Mom to lunch-she is looking forward to October and her nieces' visits!

Later that day I took my 4 month old puppy to a practice dogshow for younger dogs-it was in conjunction with a real show. Maizy has had excatly one hour of show-dog class but she performed like an old pro! She wound up getting Group 2! (Which translates to 2nd place of ALL the Sporting group pups (all the retrievers, pointers, spaniels, etc..) I was so proud of her! Particularly because 1st Place went to a Pointer 3 times her age (11 months) that was handled by a cutie-patutie 9 yr old boy all dressed up in a suit. Even I was rooting for them!
Maizy (Oakwood's Pretty Amazing Grace) with her Group 2 Ribbon
It will be fun showing Maizy-she will get her Championship FAST! We also start puppy agility training with her tonight.
Ok that was Saturday, on to Sunday!
Jerry, me and his friend Harold and his wife Laura went down to Lake Erie for some perch fishing. Water was great-less than 1 foot waves! We were out for about 5-6 hours and came back with over 50 perch-and one catfish! When fishing was slow I amused myself by feeding seagulls and trying to photograph them as they zoomed in for the food. (Photos of fishing trip are still in my camera-haven't downloaded them yet..) In the evening we went to our neighbor's annual Labor Day Party and had a great time.
Labor Day we labored!! Jerry cut down 3-4 dying elms along the road in front of our house-then started cutting on a oak tree that fell in a storm this past spring. Well about 1/3 of the oak split off -this oak has to be 200 years if it is a day. Sad it broke-hope the rest of the tree survives, but the part that broke off will heat us 1/2 the winter! By then temps were getting near 90 and we decided to go visit Jerry's mother (she is in a nursing home at the moment) then catch a movie-we saw Bottle Shock-it was pretty good even though it was a 'Hollywood version' of a true story of the wineries in Napa Valley.
Hope you all had a great Holiday Weekend!

First Blog

I have a slow Saturday morning so here I am creating a blog!

Later today I am going to a friend's house to 'temprement test' her litter of Flatcoated Retrievers-they are 7 weeks old. And yes I will have my camera with me!
This litter belongs to one of the top breeders in the country-we have been friends for 20-ish years now.

Tomorrow we are going to a friend's cabin for the day-about 43 minutes west of Mount Pleasant.

If anyone wants to see photos of my dogs/my flowers/my family/etc.. go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/oakwoodfcr/

Will post again soon!
